If we don’t have a key blank in stock then we can order it in for you, usually with only a few days to wait.
Plain and simple, a master system allows you to have different levels of access to each lock and to be controlled by one key (Grand Master).
A master system uses standard pinning technics plus goes one step further and uses “master wafers” or “spacers” in each chamber. These wafers create an additional shear line that allows the master key to turn in all of the locks. This way, you can have different pinning combinations for different levels, but the extra shear line(s) can allow a number of different keys to work the lock.
You will always have a master and sub-master, but depending on how you want your system set up you may/may not have a grand or great grand master. To understand what these levels are, let’s look at an example.
Let’s start with a basic system – a Master and Sub-Master. Say your business has four main locks: the front door, goods in door, office door, and merchandise case. You want your manager to open all of the doors, your supervisor to open the front door, goods in door, and merchandise case, and you’re other employees to only open the merchandise case. You will need a master key system with two sub-masters under it. The master key would go to the manager, one sub-master would go to your supervisor, and the other sub-master would go to other employees.
Now let’s add in a Grand Master key. Your District Manager currently carries a key ring the size of a bowling ball and would love to lighten his load. Well, you are about to make his day. You can give him a Grand Master key that will open every door in all shops in his region.
Get excited – it’s time for the granddaddy of them all – the Great Grand Master. While your DM had a massive key ring, think about the size of the box it would take to contain keys to all of your stores. If (and that’s a big if) you wanted a key to open all of your stores, you could cut a great grand master key. Typically, these keys are owned by an officer of the company and are kept under tight lock and key. Many key system sellers (including us) don’t recommend ever cutting these keys.
Have a different setup in mind? No problem – the beauty of master key systems is that they are very flexible and can be set up however you need.
We here at Bolton Lock Company Ltd have a moral and ethical duty and as a member of the (Master Locksmith Association) to provide our customers with the latest star rated cylinders which meet the new TS007:2014 + A1:2015 Security Standard for replacement lock cylinders and protective door furniture.
TS 007:2014 is the latest Kitemarked security standard for replacement lock cylinders and protective door furniture.
TS 007:2014+ A1:2015 is a Technical Specification created for the industry in response to the growing concerns that domestic homes are under threat from attacks due to the readily available information on the internet. Your cylinder at home needs to withstand 5 types of attack:
Drilling, Snapping, Plug extraction, Picking, Bumping
TS 007:2014+ A1:2015 does not cover just basic forms of cylinder attack but also includes attack testing on the protective door furniture. It uses a star rating for both the cylinder and door furniture.
TS 007:2014 covers all aspects of attack tests on both cylinder and handles. It provides a mix and match option of door cylinders with protective door furniture when retrofitting and it allows the locksmith or security installer to achieve the required TS 007:2014 3 star rating.
TS 007:2014+ A1:2015 is aimed at the retrofit market UPVC and timber door market and anybody with a basic euro profile cylinder needs it. It is designed to offer similar levels of security found in complete door assemblies rated to PAS24 and complete lock assemblies rated to PAS and BS3621, 8621 and 10621.
There are two ways to meet the TS 007:2014+ A1:2015 standard:
Cylinders marked with 1 star + door furniture marked with 2 stars = 3 star rating.
Cylinders marked with 3 stars = 3 star rating.

Bolton lock Company prides itself in the fact that it can supply a padlock for any occasion, whether its for Leisure, Home, Work / Industrial usage.
When lock manufacturers Henry Squire heralded their SS80CS as the strongest padlock in the world, we didn`t disagree, but then they launched the worlds toughest production padlock, their new SS100 range of Closed Shackle and Open Shackle padlocks – and all we can say is WOW!
Both the Open and Closed Shackle padlocks feature a 100mm wide solid steel body, a removable 20mm diameter hardened boron alloy steel shackle and twin 6 pin locking cylinders which can be keyed alike, or keyed differently to provide a supervisory function.
Each can only be described as a beast of a padlock, with the Open Shackle unit weighing in at around 3.4 kilograms and the Closed Shackle padlock weighing in at a massive 4.3kg.
This padlock is the first ever to achieve the highest LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board) Level SR4 accreditation and CEN 6 approval – the closed shackle padlock was tested to Sold Secure Diamond standard with a 22mm security chain.
To achieve that level of accreditation, among other things, the padlock must be able to withstand an attack using a cordless angle grinder (with spare battery and 3 cutting discs), for 10 minutes.
Each of the two lock cylinders locks one side of the removable shackle in position, so both cylinders must be unlocked before the shackle can be removed.
